We’re really pleased to be supporting local motorcycle racer Ryan Whitehall again this season. This year he’s competing in the Thundersport GB 600 Elite race series, one of the top categories for amateur riders in the UK. Solent provides Ryan with his sponsor stickers as well as some direct sponsorship.
At his latest outing to Snetterton race circuit in Norfolk, Ryan managed to qualify 4th overall and 1st in the Sportsman class out of a field of 25 competitors. There are three races and Ryan had a mix of results. In the first he set a number of fastest laps in class before being caught out quite spectacularly (see photo). Races 2 and 3 yielded much better results with Ryan finishing 3rd in class in a rain-soaked race two and then a very close 2nd in class for the third race.
Ryan commented, “Having learnt from race 1 we kept a closer eye on the track. I cycled to the end of the track with 15 minutes till the race and could see a fairly dry line throughout. I rung George and after 45 seconds of silence whilst I reasoned with myself, I asked them to change to dry tyres. It was the right decision and although I lost out on around 8 positions in the first lap I started to claw back up the grid. Closing the 8 second gap from the leader. I lined up a pass last corner but the leader took a defensive line and I missed the opportunity. Gutted was an understatement, but we bagged valuable points.”
We’re looking forward to see how his season progresses in the next Thundersport event at Cadwell Park next month.
