If you didn’t know it was the Wightlink Ryde Slide last week, then we must assume that you have been living under a rock for the last month. You certainly couldn’t miss the 200 metre-long slide that snaked down Union Street and the hundreds of men, women and children all donning their swimsuits, grabbing a lilo and shooting on down the slide, with a little help from local firemen.
As well as being a unique and fun thing to do, one to tick off the bucket list, every slider was also helping to raise a record breaking total of £5000 to be shared
amongst Ryde charities; The Waterside Trust, Aspire, Wight Brainy Bunch, Firefighters Charity and Ryde Inshore Rescue. The day went smoothly with the first slider being non other than Bob Seeley, our newly elected MP. Other notable sliders including leader of the IWCC Dave Stewart, Cllr Wayne Whittle, Ryde Slide organiser and of course, pretty much the whole Solent team.
The atmosphere in Ryde was electric on Sunday, with music and a bar run by the guys from Victorious Festival at the bottom, and a pop-up record store and DJs outside The Blacksheep Bar.
If you didn’t get a chance to slide this year, we will be back for 2018 so make sure you book on and slide on down!
