Niton Primary Ofsted turnaround

We do love a good news story here on the Isle of Wight, especially if we have helped to spread the joy.
Niton Primary School received the excellent news that they were rated as ‘good’ at their recent Ofsted inspection, only 4 years since being placed into ‘special measures’ and rated ‘inadequate’. Duncan Mills, headteacher, took the helm in 2014 and within three terms, had pulled the school out of the lowest grading (now known as 4) and up to a grade 3.

News Coverage for Niton Primary School

Upon hearing the news that the school had progressed even further to grade 2 (good) at the Ofsted inspection in May 2017, the school wanted to make sure that the good-news story got out across the Island, even more poignant at a time when it seems that the Island’s education system is in the news, but for all the wrong reasons. This is where we came in. Working in partnership with the school and Isle of Wight Council, we were able to bring together a story that got the attention of our local media with some excellent regional coverage, and a successful photo-call featuring teachers, councillors and pupils (they say, never work with kids…).

This is another example of Solent rising to the challenge, generating media stories, tweets and social media engagement to get the good news out there.
Congratulations Niton Primary School!
